Spirit Program Supports Colonials at the Women's NCAA Tournament First and Second Rounds

SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA - Members of the GW Cheer Team traveled to the Bay Area from March 19th through March 24th, 2008.  The team supported the GW women's basketball team as they competed in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

In addition to practicing for Nationals, members of the Cheer Team were able to explore the sights of Northern California including the Monterey Bay Aquarium, downtown San Francisco, and the beaches of Santa Cruz. 

The sixth-seeded Colonials defeated Auburn on Saturday, March 22nd to earn a spot in the second round of the tournament.  They faced third-seeded California on Monday, March 24th, and won 57-55 with a buzzer-beater by senior Sarah-Jo Lawrence.  The Colonials advanced to their second straight Sweet 16, where they will face Rutgers on Sunday, March 30th.
