G-Dub 101 Student Success Program

Mission Statement
The mission of G-Dub 101 is to create a positive overall experience for members of the GW Spirit Program. For freshmen students, we recognize that the transition to collegiate life is often difficult, and that this adjustment is magnified for student athletes. In an effort to reduce the stress during this period, we will strive to provide the best services to first-year students involved in the Spirit Program throughout their first year with the program. Further, G-Dub 101 will provide academic support services to Spirit Program team members including mentoring, tutoring, career development, and professional networking. Through support programs such as G-Dub 101, the Spirit Program is dedicated to providing team members with the skills they need to succeed during their college career and beyond.
Learning Outcomes In our dedication to furthering student development, the GW Spirit Program holds the following as student learning outcomes of the G-Dub 101 program:
- Students will gain time management skills, and be enabled to coordinate several obligations, tasks, and assignments in an effective manner
- Students will develop interpersonal skills through social interactions with fellow team members, coaches, and alumni.
- Students will develop academic self-assessment skills.
- Students will be able to demonstrate basic competencies in communication skills (writing, speaking, listening).
Program Structure G-Dub 101 has four main components: Mentoring, tutoring, programming, and academic support. The foundation of the program is the mentoring relationships established between first-year and upper-class team members. These partnerships are deliberate and purposeful, and are meant to ease the transition of first-year team members into their new team, and for freshmen, into their new school. Mentors will serve as partners and guides through all of the services offered by G-Dub 101, particularly the activities around campus and the city.
Activities are, for the most part, optional. It is strongly encouraged that mentors and mentees discuss the event schedule and determine some programs to attend together. The events are designed to give team members an opportunity to experience all DC has to offer with fellow Spirit Program team members. The role of the academic component of G-Dub 101 and of the Mission 3.0 is to continually support academic excellence and educational advancement of our team members. Academic support is an underlying structure of the entire G-Dub 101 program. Please click on the items below for specific information on the components of G-Dub 101:
